Hi Wilde Truth-Seekers,
As I notice Wilde Truth passed its first anniversary, I’m amazed at our journey together. Over the past year, I’ve brought you over 40 thought-provoking articles, diving into diverse topics from the limits of technology to the frontiers of scientific discovery. Most popular was my discussion of “Simpson’s Paradox and Existential Terror: There is no paradox -- ‘D’OH!’ ” That’s the intersection of inquiry and humor that I cherish.
Writing is my calling, and Wilde Truth is where I channel this passion. However, quality writing, evidence-based cultural and scientific criticism, and other in-depth analysis in a world dominated by oversimplified narratives take time, effort, and other resources. This is where your support can make a tangible difference.
Supporting Wilde Truth isn’t just about sustaining a platform; it's about championing an independent voice in a crowded space. Whether it’s tackling controversial topics like abortion and Covid, or challenging consensus ideologies like scientific neutrality and exclusive breastfeeding, I’ve always prioritized integrity over popularity — a path less traveled, but one I believe in deeply.
So, here’s my ask: If you find value in Wilde Truth, please consider subscribing. Your support will enable continued exploration of untold stories and uncharted territories in science and politics. If a subscription isn’t possible, then sharing my work or engaging with it in any other way is equally valuable. Send me a note saying what you loved, hated, or what I should cover next.
As for birthdays, they’re a time for reflection. Coincidentally, I share mine next week with renowned public statistician and mass screenings critic Stephen Fienberg. This brings to mind the “birthday problem” in statistics, which teaches us about the surprising likelihood of shared experiences. In many ways, Wilde Truth has been about uncovering these hidden connections and shared stories, particularly stories that are less likely to get told than the dominant narratives.
So, as I prepare to celebrate another year of life and learning, I invite you to join me on this journey. Your support, whether through a subscription, sharing my work, or simply engaging in thoughtful discussion, is what fuels Wilde Truth. Together, let's continue seeking truth, challenging consensus, and exploring the fascinating world of science and politics.
Most of all, I want to sincerely thank everyone who already subscribes and/or engages with me about these topics, what they means for people’s lives — and how we can improve science and science communication in order to help people make better choices for themselves in a world full of error and uncertainty.
Here’s to another year of discovery and dialogue!
Yours,
Vera
