Wilde Truth
I’m Vera Wilde, a political scientist and research methodologist with over 17 years of experience studying bias, technology, and health. After completing National Science Foundation-supported PhD and postdoctoral research at the University of Virginia (Politics), UCLA (Psych), and Harvard (government/inequality), I co-created the website iBorderCtrl.NO! You can read a bit more about me in my first post.
This free newsletter is my punk science practice — a discipline of contesting spin science (science in service of preferred sociopolitical stories) by exposing the chinks where bias and error filter what we see under the pretense of neutrality, power shapes the scientific record, and often the most we can say about what we know is that we don’t know what we want to know. Topics include research design, statistics, causality, freedom of information (FOI), and other places where power and truth collide, especially on terrain relating to women and babies. I also maintain a longstanding research interest in mass screenings for low-prevalence problems.
Thanks for reading. If you like my writing, please share it with a friend or consider supporting my work as a paid subscriber. And don’t hesitate to contact me with corrections or suggestions. I look forward to hearing from you.
I’m on Bluesky @verawil.de and (very) occasionally back at https://verawil.de. (I’ve been locked out of X for a while and can’t get tech support to help.)
